Medical Malpractice
Medical negligence, many times referred to as medical malpractice, is an area in which the attorneys at Morris Laing have considerable experience. Assessing liability against a health care provider can be difficult. In today's medical environment, it is unfortunate that, on occasion, health care providers do not always meet the level of care that is required and breach the trust the public has in them. As a result, patients have been seriously injured, and sometimes die, from substandard care.

Managing medical negligence cases is a complex and difficult process. Morris Laing investigates claims of medical negligence in a thorough manner and only accepts representation when it is clear there has been a serious violation of the standard of care. We do not take the implications of making a claim against a health care provider lightly. The attorneys at Morris Laing recognize that patients sustaining injury as a result of medical negligence require the highest level of representation. Morris Laing not only has the resources, but the experience and expertise to provide our clients with the best legal representation possible.

Premises Liability and Construction Defects
Under Kansas premises liability law, the owner and manager of property is responsible for maintaining it in a reasonably safe condition. When negligent care or maintenance results in injury to a visitor, the injured person is entitled to damages for medical treatment and pain and suffering. A premises liability claim may involve a slip and fall accident that causes injury, an assault sustained on premises that did not have adequate security, injuries due to faulty construction, or injuries that occur because of falling merchandise. Our attorneys have experience with premise liability and construction defect cases where our clients have suffered significant and serious physical injury.

Product Liability
Defective products injure and kill thousands of people every year. Federal and state regulatory agencies try to address this problem, but provide no remedies or compensation to the actual victims. The attorneys at Morris Laing have long recognized the impact a product failure resulting in injury or death can have upon a family. Therefore, we have developed the know-how to successfully pursue claims involving a wide variety of defective products ranging from automobile air bag or seat-belt failure to unguarded machines, unsafe farm implements and general defective designs.

Wrongful Death
The Kansas Wrongful Death Act empowers the heirs of an individual who dies as the result of negligent conduct to claim damages for their losses from the party or parties responsible for that individual's untimely death. These claims are typically made on behalf of surviving spouses, children and parents. The law limits recovery to only the immediate heirs at law as governed by Kansas law. Claims under the Kansas Wrongful Death Act are not only complex, but also very emotional.

Jeff Carmichael, John Johnson and Cameron Michaud bring a special expertise to these delicate matters and each has a wealth of experience dealing with wrongful death cases. These cases include motor vehicle accidents, trucking accidents, medical malpractice cases, defective products, airplane crashes, construction accidents and other negligent activity that results in a person's death. Guiding the heirs of such tragedies through the intricacies of liability theories and damage and injury elements is something you can trust the attorneys of Morris Laing to handle with expert skill and concern for their clients’ best interests.
